Vet’s stay free at the Hope Merrill House
Veterans Day has taken a new twist , including free lodging on Veterans Day.
A West Virginia B&B started letting Veterans stay for free on Veterans Day in 2008, and has since recruited over 400 B&B’s across the country and Canada.
Right here in Geyserville, Ron & Cosette Scheiber, owners and hosts for the Hope-Merrill House on Geyserville Avenue have participated in B&Bs for Vets for two years.
This year the Scheibers welcomed guests from as far away as Rocklin to an evening of wine tasting, and a homemade breakfast, all for free as part of B&Bs for Vets.
This hits close to home for Ron, being an Air Force Veteran serving during the Vietnam War.
The age range 27-71, two of whom were women, hosted vets from wars and conflicts going back to Vietnam. Though most had been vets for many years, one newbe has just completed his 25th year in service this past summer.
