Geyserville High School Boys Soccer team takes home a pennant
Coach Greg Bekker has much to say about the Geyserville High School boys soccer team.
‘Although the season ended abruptly, with a gut-wrenching, sudden death overtime loss in the playoffs, we couldn’t be more proud of our boys.’
They accomplished some amazing goals both individually and as a team.
Led by seasoned leadership, and an influx of young talent, Geyserville won league for the first time in school history.
The team also advanced to the quarter finals of the playoffs for the first time in school history.
Although they are a team, it would be an injustice not to point out some exemplary players that helped make this a possibility.
Senior Goalkeeper Lupe Silva allowed a mere two goals over the entire league season. An amazing accomplishment, that was due in part to exceptional play by Freshman Sweeper Sergio Ruiz. This stalwart defense was aided by league MVP James Brown who controlled the pace of play throughout the field and anchored the squad throughout every game.
In the coming weeks, the boys will be able to hoist a pennant in the gym that will forever mark the accomplishments of the 2012 team.
