Geyserville School Board votes not to enter into negotiations with Healdsburg School District
With a couple of hundred people attending the Geyserville School Board meeting Wednesday, the board voted not to enter into negotiations with the Healdsburg School District.
The negotiations would have looked at the possibility of merging grades 9-12 into Healdsburg High School as early as the 2013 school year.
Geyserville Superintendent Joe Carnation and five board members listened to the concerns of over two dozen parents, students, alumni and community members.
The message was the same from all of them, ‘don’t break up our family’.

Lots of cheers and tears. But the take away is that every single parent who expects their child to continue their education in the Geyserville School District needs to participate in solving the financial crisis.
We just bought all of my daughter’s school books online so she wouldn’t have to carry them back and forth to school. Seven textbooks cost us about $200. At the end of the school year, we’ll be donating the books to the school. Imagine how many textbooks could be donated each year saving the school thousands of dollars by requiring students to purchase their books. It’s no different than asking families to “donate” $1.00/day for 181 school days each school year.
Let’s rally one and all!
Lori has put forth a direct challenge, are there other ideas out there?
Our children are owed an education by State government. It’s why we pay taxes, well some of us. Donating more money is no different than paying more taxes. The problem is not here, it is with the state and entitlement spending. If you only have so much money, you cannot buy (or fund)everything. You need to decide where to spend it. Our state has decided that our children’s education is on the bottom of the list. We need to fix this from the top not the bottom.
I am so glad we are going to save Geyserville High School. For a little town, we have so much spirit and unity. I feel so lucky to live here. I for one will join in to do my part to contribute to the school.
