Corn Star Kimberly’s crop update
The corn at School House Vineyard and Farm is just three to four weeks away from harvest, says “Corn Star” Kimberly Peterson-Nelson. Although not certified organic, she practices organic farming, using only water and sun to grow the corn.
“I love plain boiled corn but my favorite is to partially husk the corn,” says Nelson, “cutting the ends so there’s no hanging tassels. Then I soak it in ice water for at least an hour and put it directly on the grill. I even like to expose one side of the ear directly to the grill. I love the look of grill marks.
“With day-old corn, I love to cut it off the cob and sauté it with zucchini and onions and other veggies from the garden.”
Look for School House Creek Vineyard & Farm corn in three to four weeks at the Cloverdale Friday Night Farmers Market and both Healdsburg Farmers Markets (Saturday 9 a.m.-noon and Wednesday 4-7 p.m.).
New this year, end of the summer: popping corn.

Can’t wait!! This sounds so yummy! See you soon Kim!
If it’s anywhere near as good as last years….oh boy am I looking forward to it. Love it, love it, love it.
Also on the grill… husk the corn, place one ear, or a half an ear on a square of tinfoil.. Add a little butter, salt, pepper and an herb or two.. Wrap it tightly and place on grill for about 20 minutes.. So god.
I can already tell there’s going to be a long line at your produce stand in Cloverdale when the corn comes in! I’ve never had “fresh” popping corn. Definitely have to give that a try this year.
